Sasol TechnoX 2023 Day 2: Learners urged to break down barriers and become future shapers
Sasolburg – Speakers on day 2 (August 15) of Sasol TechnoX, South Africa’s premier Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths, and Innovation (STEAMI) career exhibition, urged young South Africans to embrace a passion for science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics and innovation (STEAMI) as a vehicle to achieve their dreams and play a role in shaping a better tomorrow.
Organised annually by the Sasol Foundation, TechnoX provides an immersive and hands-on experience for learners, showcasing the diverse disciplines and exciting career opportunities offered by STEAMI. Under the theme of “future shapers – discover your passion, shape your future,” Sasol TechnoX inspires the youth to catalysts for change through limitless possibilities in STEAMI careers and disciplines.
Buti Manamela, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, said that the integration of STEAMI disciplines gives us a powerful set of tools we can use to answer questions, explore the answer and change our world. “We should not have limits to our dreams,” he said. “It is only if we remove the barriers that we can be able to achieve, innovate, create and build a better country.”
He urged the matric learners to apply for courses that will enable them to help move South Africa forward and commended Sasol for empowering young people with information to make career choices that meet the needs of the country.
Gao Mothoagae, Vice President: Social Impact at Sasol, said: “For the past 21 years, Sasol has hosted TechnoX to inspire a passion in the youth for the potential of STEM disciplines. We are as passionate about Sasol TechnoX today as we were in 2002, but we have expanded our focus to include arts and innovation.”
“The complex social, economic and environmental challenges our world faces don’t only need technical solutions, but also an approach that integrates empathy, creativity and human judgement. It’s our aim to inspire young people to become agents of positive change in their communities and beyond. Education is the key to addressing unemployment and unlocking the potential of our young people.”
Sasol TechnoX offers a hybrid approach for greater reach, ensuring accessibility to a wider audience. Participants have the option to attend the exhibition in person at Sasolburg or virtually, where they can engage with over 40 innovative STEAMI exhibitors, attend captivating talks and interactive demonstrations, and explore the latest technologies and career opportunities.
There are still nearly three days of presentations, workshops, and experiences lined up for Sasol TechnoX 2023, so it’s not too late to join in. Participation is free. For more information about Sasol TechnoX and to participate in this year’s exhibition, please visit www.sasoltechnox.co.za.
