Singer/actress, Selena Gomez, has the looks of a teenager despite being 24 and although a lot of people might consider this a blessing, the star has revealed in a new interview that this keeps her from getting roles that really matter.
Speaking to The New York Times, she said that she’s struggling to secure gritty and mature movie roles, having started out as a child actor and the obvious reason for that is because of her youthful looks.
“I could do any tomboy/teen princess movie in the world if I wanted to. I could do those for years. But I want to be a part of projects that have value, that really matter. And it’s really hard to do that. To be honest, I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon for me. I think I look really young and image-wise, it’s difficult for people to grasp.”
Selena landed her big break on the Disney Channel’s Wizards Of Waverly Place as a teen. Afterwards, she went on to star in Another Cinderella story, Ramona and Beezus, Spring breakers and more, where she was given the role of a teenager. Though she wants the adult roles, she is not hopeful that will happen soon.
Selena is the most followed person on Instagram, after Instagram of course, but that also comes with a price as that means the number of trolls will be just as much. The mean comments from trolls, she revealed, has affected her so much that she deletes her app at least once a week.
She said: “You fixate on the [negative] ones. They’re not like, ‘You’re ugly.’ It’s like they want to cut to your soul. Imagine all the insecurities that you already feel about yourself and having someone write a paragraph pointing out every little thing – even if it’s just physical.”
