Seven therapy chatbots to help support your mental health

Must read

If you’re feeling sad, anxious or overwhelmed, your natural instinct is to find someone to talk to. But not everyone has a psychotherapist on speed-dial to provide support and counsel when they’re stressed, feeling down or unhappy.

With recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), you can talk to a chatbot to help with your mental wellness journey. These bots aren’t meant to be a replacement for a life coach, counsellor, or a psychotherapist, but they can help fill the gap when one isn’t available.

For World Mental Health Day (10 October), TCL suggests the following chatbot apps and websites that provide mental wellness support:

  1. JungGPT

Jung GPT is an emotional reflection tool designed as an advanced AI chat support system. Rather than being just another chatbot, Jung GPT encourages users to venture into their feelings and indulge in profound dialogues.

  1. Mindsum Bot

Mindsum AI Bot is a conversational bot powered by OpenAI and custom trained models. It helps you understand your mental health, find useful tips, and feel better. Whether you’re feeling sad, anxious, stuck or just want to speak your mind, Mindsum is there to listen and help you work through it.

  1. SommerAI

Sommer is a ChatGPT-based web app that uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)

and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) to help you work through your thoughts and feelings.

  1. Thought Coach

This is a simple website app that helps you to reframe negative thoughts. It helps you to address cognitive distortions—irrational, exaggerated, or unhelpful thought patterns that have the potential to negatively impact your mental and emotional well-being.

  1. Youper

This Android app uses CBT to calm anxiety and improve your mood. CBT is based on practical exercises to help you think more clearly, deal with stressful situations, and take control of your emotions. Youper is available at your own time and schedule wherever and whenever you need it.

  1. Wysa

Trusted by 500,000 people, Wysa is an emotionally intelligent chatbot that uses AI to react to the emotions you express. This Android app provides tools and techniques that help you cope with challenges in a fun, conversational way. For extra support, you can seek guidance from a human coach on the app.

  1. Woebot

Woebot is an Android app that helps users with everyday stress and anxiety, as well as symptoms of depression, relationship problems, procrastination, loneliness, grief, addiction, pain management, and more. Woebot guides you through practical techniques based on approaches such as CBT, mindfulness, and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)
