Colombian pop singer Shakira rode her World Cup success to a new milestone on Facebook, announcing to her fans on Friday that her page had reached 100 million followers.
While Shakira was already the most popular celebrity on the site, her follower count got a major boost with the World Cup song “La La La,” helping catapult her to greater fame.
The star posted a video on her Facebook page to thank fans for the achievement.
Shakira generated a stream of buzz in the months leading up to the World Cup, releasing a self-titled album and then reworking the album single “La La La” into the World Cup anthem “La La La (Brazil 2014).” She then headlined the World Cup closing ceremony in Rio on July 13, performing the song with Brazilian star Carlinhos Brown.
