Simmi Areff is known for telling it like it is, no sugar-coating! In his brand new one-man show, Love And Other Jokes, coming up at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square in Sandton on the 27th & 28th of September, he explores the whimsical tales of his love life. He seemingly has all the answers – but take them with a pinch of salt – because he wouldn’t be sharing his story if his love life was better than yours…
But, setting Love And Other Jokes aside, something that Simmi doesn’t take lightly is the continuous fight against gender based violence and in light of the recent acts of violence, Simmi is using his voice to create awareness and taking a stand and all proceeds from his show will be going to FEMMEPROJECTS – a non-profit organisation with an all womxn, youth-led directorship.
“It’s a no-brainer why I wanted to work to help them. They do such good work at grassroots level and one of the ways we can change our country’s femicide rate is by learning more about the topics they educate communities about,” comments Simmi.
Following his successful TV special, “Lesser Known Somebody”, the new show is about the funny ups-and-downs of love; the awkward moments; the plots of lust and the folly of infatuation. Simmi is the Agony Uncle for the heartbroken; the love guru of the modern era.
“It’s a show with lots of interaction, bringing in the audience to share their love stories along with me. But I’m not only talking about love but about stories of my dad, my poetry and other experiences,” comments Simmi.
Tickets for “Love And Other Jokes” are available at R150 per person from Computicket outlets and online. The show carries a PG-14 age restriction and starts at 20h15. The Auto & General Theatre on the Square is located on the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton.
