Singer, Chef, Activist And Champion Of Local Music, Amy Lilley, Releases Highly-Anticipated Debut Ep, “She”

Cape Town-based Amy Lilley boasts many talents, of which her singing and song-writing abilities are at the forefront with the release of her debut EP. ‘She’ was finally shared with the world on Friday, 28 August after the resounding success of her two singles ‘Formidable’ and ‘No Show’ which have painted Amy as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.  Her new single “No Show” follows in the footsteps of her successful debut single and the official music video was released today.“I love the queer community and I love the South African music scene. We have so much to offer and I intend to work in the fore- and background, and to be involved with as many things as I can to make sure it stays alive.” shares Amy

Success and good timing are attracted to Amy’s comportment like a magnet, as she was signed by acclaimed distribution label Platoon before even releasing any professional material. It was a short distance from here to the lyric video of her first single ‘Formidable’ reaching over 600k views and landing on some of the biggest charts in the country.

But who is Amy Lilley and what can we expect from her debut EP – especially after this strong start in both the local and international music scene?

Born and raised in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, Amy completed her tertiary studies in New Zealand while simultaneously kicking off her search for self-actualisation. Upon her return, she felt the lack of space for live music and expression in Cape Town so deeply that she promptly transformed the eatery that she co-owned into a live music venue.

“I made our ethos that anyone that had something to say and express had the means to,” explains Amy. “I wanted to make a little unicorn in the Mother City where everyone, no matter where you come from or who you love, could have a home.”

And her music is based on the very same principle.

Profound, honest lyrics are expressed with a refreshing timbre as Amy immaculately layers the vocals in each track, and these are the qualities that refuse to let the songwriter be defined by just one genre. ‘She’ is truly a melting pot of musical versatility (excuse the pun).

The three new tracks coming in hot to complete the EP are titled ‘Red Wine’, ‘Falling’ and ‘Down the Line’. And while these will surely have fans old and new begging for more, we can rest assured that she is already working on a new all-female album collaborating with other phenomenal women in music.

While still committed to rallying the arts at her restaurant and music venue The Raptor Room, Amy is clear on what she wants to do with her music going forward: “I just really love singing,” she says. “I want to get into live shows and really create an intimate show with a lot of thought put into it.”

Amy Lilley may have created the unicorn she wanted to in the Mother City, but her unique musical style and open heart is the unicorn that her own music has come to represent – and we are waiting for more with baited breath.

‘She’ is available on all major digital platforms.
