Amarula’s “The Great Marula Menu” Savors Global Recognition with Gourmand World Cookbook Awards Nomination

Johannesburg, South Africa – Just four months after its delectable debut, “The Great Marula Menu,” Amarula celebrated a South African cookbook, and it is making a splash on the international culinary scene. The book has been nominated for a prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Award in the Spirits and Food category at the 30th annual awards.

“The Great Marula Menu” is a palatable fusion of Amarula’s rich heritage and the vibrant culinary talents of South Africa. Culinary experts The Lazy Makoti and J’ Something partnered with passionate home cooks nationwide to create a collection of Amarula-inspired recipes that capture the spirit of the community and a shared love of exceptional taste. From tantalizing starters and satisfying mains to decadent desserts and inspired cocktails, each recipe displays the versatility of this world-famous liqueur. More than just a cookbook, it is a tribute to the land of the marula tree, a celebration of South African ingenuity and generosity.

Recognising that Amarula has often played a supporting role in desserts and cocktails, the cookbook aimed to reveal its true potential as a star ingredient. J’ Something and The Lazy Makoti, alongside a panel of expert food specialists, curated recipes that pushed culinary boundaries, featuring Amarula in innovative savoury dishes and beyond. The result is a culinary journey that celebrates Amarula as more than just a drink—it is a versatile companion for every meal.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau, are considered the Oscars of the cookbook world, honouring the best in food and wine literature, both printed and digital, as well as food television. This year’s awards saw entries from 221 countries and regions, highlighting the global impact of culinary storytelling.

“We are absolutely thrilled with this nomination,” says Banele Msimanga, Senior Brand Manager of Amarula. “To see ‘The Great Marula Menu’ recognised on this international platform so soon after its launch is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the incredible talent of South African home cooks and the unique versatility of Amarula.”

The “Best in the World” winners will be announced at a grand awards ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal, in June 2025.

Proceeds from the sale of “The Great Marula Menu,” available at Exclusive Books for R360.00, will benefit the Amarula Foundation, supporting local communities. Join the celebration and share the excitement using #Amarula #GreatMarulaMenu #GourmandAwards.
