Is 13th anniversary of the Reed Dance!
Reed Dance (uMkhosi woMhlanga) is a cultural celebration that promotes respect for young women, and preserves the custom of keeping girls as virgins until marriage. Often celebrated by the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithin on September 5 where young women dance bare-breasted for the king, each carrying a long reed, deposited later as they approach the King.
Reed dance took place on 5th of september at the eNyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma in the KwaZulu-Natal region, as hundreds of South African maidens arrive on September 4 at the palace camp
Ahead of the dance, the maidens goes for ritual bath in a local river early hour of the morning at the eNyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma in the KwaZulu-Natal.
