Haylea Heyns

Haylea Heyns is back with a new single titled ‘Blow Your Speakers’, a modern and effervescent love song to lift the spirits and thrill.

This comes out on the back of Haylea’s 2019 4-track EP titled ‘My Heart Belongs in Africa’, featuring a soft ballad of the same name, as well as ‘Whole’, ‘Gaining Ground’ and ‘3am’.

Despite all odds, ‘Blow Your Speakers’ was produced by Cosher Studios in Cape Town, while Haylea recorded her vocals in her hometown of Durban in order to adhere to all of the lockdown restrictions. Coincidentally, the song, too, exudes an energy of enthusiasm and willpower – just less about a pandemic and more about a passionate romance.

“‘Blow Your Speakers’ is a contemporary, upbeat pop song that expresses that feeling of falling in love for the first time,” says Haylea. “That excitement – when your heart feels like it’s a speaker so loud it might burst – and when you can’t stop thinking of that person you’ve fallen for, cos they’re the ‘hook’ stuck in your head. That’s ‘Blow Your Speakers’ kind of love.”

On the solid foundation of her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Drama (with Cum Laude), Haylea is also an actress and theatre performer. No stranger to the stage, she was a part of the London West End cast that toured ‘The Sound of Music’ internationally, playing the role of Baroness Elsa Schraeder.

Other musicals that Haylea has featured in include ‘Shrek: The Musical’, ‘Into The Woods’ and a Christmas pantomime of ‘Sleeping Beauty’.

Not a beauty without a cause, Haylea was also one of the performers for the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music’s “Voices Against Gender-Based Violence” virtual benefit concert in August this year, alongside Toya Delazy, Natalie Rungan, and Chloe Clark, among others.

While we all want that ‘Blow Your Speakers’ kind of love, until we find it, we’ll gladly be blowing our speakers as we enjoy Haylea’s new music.

‘Blow Your Speakers’ is available on all major digital music platforms.
