Wits Basketball Club has partnered with SpaceBox, South Africa’s first online personal storage company giving the sport a boost ahead of the upcoming season. The sponsorship will not only be a shot in the arms for the men’s and women’s basketball teams but will also provide the Wits campus with short and long-term student storage solutions.
As part of the sponsorship, SpaceBox will provide each player with storage boxes during the season whether they are on the road with the team or away on holiday. The partnership will see SpaceBox support Wits basketball over the next 18 months.
SpaceBox CEO Wouter Klomp said they hoped their involvement would not only add to the success of Wits basketball but also help raise the profile of the sport in the country.
“As one of the leading student storage solution providers we believe in ploughing back into our communities using sport as a vehicle,” Klomp said.
“We believe our contribution will not only help develop the sport, but we are excited to partner with one of the leading higher education institutions in the country.” Wits sports officer Ntshembo Vukeya said the partnership would be invaluable to the players when they have to be out of residence during the holiday periods. “SpaceBox will collect all the items, store everything and return the items when they are required again,” Vukeya said.
“This unbelievable service will be available to all Wits students whether you stay in residence or not. With this newly-formed partnership, one can only watch this space as the Wits Basketball Club are accompanied on their next series of successful outings throughout the basketball season.”
SpaceBox provides short-term, longer-term or summer holiday storage for students around the country. Students can make monthly payments for each box or individual bulky item that is stored. Instead of paying for a fixed-sized storage unit, they only pay for the space that is used. SpaceBox will be at the Varsity Basketball where the top four women’s university teams will be in action. The tournament will feature the SpaceBox Wits Lady Bucks, North-West University, Vaal University of Technology and the University of Johannesburg at the Wits Multi-Purpose Sports Hall.
