That GOP staffer who bashed Obama’s daughters is resigning……
A Republican staffer who faced huge backlash after writing a Facebook post stating that Barack Obama’s daughters should “show a little class” will resign.
Elizabeth Lauten, the communications director for Rep. Stephen Fincher (R.-Tenn.), previously issued an apology after bashing Malia and Sasha Obama for looking bored during a televised event with their father on the day before Thanksgiving. According to NBC, Lauten said her resignation was in the works on Monday.
Lauten posted the comment about Malia and Sasha on her Facebook page following the annual turkey pardon on Wednesday, but it was quickly taken down. In it, she bashed the two teens, writing: “You’re part of the First Family, try showing a little class” before criticizing the outfits the girls wore. “Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at the bar,” she added.
A screenshot of the offending commentary can be seen below:

Following that post, Lauten wrote a Facebook apology. That statement has also since been taken down or been made private on Facebook, but can still be viewed in screenshots on Twitter:

“I reacted to an article and quickly judged the two young ladies in a way that I would never have wanted to be judged myself as a teenager,” Lauten wrote in the apology. “After many hours of prayer, talking to my parents and re-reading my words online, I can see more clearly how hurtful my words were.”
Fincher’s office was unavailable for comment on Monday morning.
