Time is precious. It is something you have to handle with great care as each of us is allocated only a certain amount. Every second passing is an opportunity that you will never get again. Or, so the world will make you believe.
In contrast, wasting time sometimes is the best thing you can do. This is the message Stefan Jansen wants to send to the world with his new EP, WASTING TIME .
I t was necessary for Stefan to “waste” some time on occasion. This waste of time led him to self-examination and reflection on the things that make up his humanity. This w aste of time became an opportunity in itself.
WASTING TIME is a collection of four songs that was written over a period of almost ten years. Each song reminds Stefan of a version of himself during different phases of his life.
LOST BLOODLINE (2012) reminds him of a younger and slightly more arrogant version, while WASTING TIME (2015) was written at a time when his thoughts began to deepen.
SONG OF SILENCE (2020) was the turning point when he began to see more truths in life, and WINDS OF CHANGE (2020) reminds him to reflect on the hope that does not put you to shame.
Although all the songs have great value for Stefan, it is SONG OF SILENCE that personally stands out. “It’s a song that took me through two big personal journeys; love and music,” he explains.
All the songs were written by Stefan and produced by Tertius Human. According to Stefan the music would not have been the same without Tertius. “The music I wrote was just a seed, but Tertius watered it helped it gr o w into something much bigger,” explains the musician.
Stefan has already achieved great fame with his Afrikaans music: SUIKERBOS, KATRYN, LANKAL GEREED and JANIE. His music already held numerous number one positions on the hit parades of various radio stations, including LekkerFM, Radio Rosestad and Bok Radio.
The music video of SUIKERBOS secured him an award from VONK for ” the Video from a newcomer that passed the 100 000 view mark the fastest ” .
Apart from his South African audience, Stefan has already gained fans through his international music tours to Switzerland and Europe. In 2022 his album, KATRYN, was named ” Album of the Year ” by Radio Spannenberg in T he Netherlands.
With his English music Stefan builds on his good reputation as a true musician. As with his Afrikaans music, the English tracks are inspired by his own experiences. Stefan’s interpretation of this ensures that the lyrics gain universal value.
WASTING TIME highlights Stefan’s versatility as a writer, musician and thinker. The boldness he has in shar ing his experiences with the public in an honest way is characteristic of the album.
With WASTING TIME Stefan establishes his roots o n the music scene and makes it clear that he is here to stay.
