Sun International empowers female learners with International Women’s Day book donation
Personal mastery books are valuable tools to support young women
As International Women’s Day reminded the world about issues including gender equality and violence and abuse against women, Sun International focused a local spotlight on helping local young women to reach their full potential.
The hospitality company, which has dedicated their socio-economic development work on uplifting education in South Africa, donated Smile, Shimmer and Shine personal mastery books tailored specifically for teenage girls to 172 grade 8 female learners at Tembisa High School and 185 Grade 7’s at Ekukhanyisweni Primary School in Alexandra.

These books are invaluable resources that can empower young women to navigate the complexities of adolescence and emerge as confident, self-assured individuals.
“By donating these books on International Women’s Day, we sent a powerful message to young women everywhere: that their voices matter, that their dreams are valid, and that they have the power to shape their own destinies,” said Sun International CEO Anthony Leeming.
In a society where women often conform to narrow standards of beauty and success, personal mastery books offer a refreshing alternative, “encouraging girls to embrace their unique strengths and pursue their passions with courage and conviction”, Leeming said.

Sun International’s Head of Transformation, Ashnie Muthusamy, who wrote the book, said the impact of the donation extended beyond individual empowerment. “It also has the potential to benefit entire communities. When girls are given the tools and resources they need to thrive, they are better equipped to break the cycle of poverty, contribute to economic growth, and become agents of positive change in their communities. By investing in the education and empowerment of girls, we invest in the future of our world,” she said.
