A fake Facebook page called “Oscar Pistorius Official” has been soliciting money from people, the murder-accused paralympian’s spokeswoman Anneliese Burgess said.
[full]”It has come to my attention that the impostor Facebook page has now added fraud to their activities,” she said in a statement on Tuesday.
“They are soliciting money from unsuspecting followers who have not yet come to understand that this page is run by an impostor pretending to be TeamOscar.”
Burgess added that the page also made other false allegations.
“This Facebook page also claims that the @OscarHardTruth Twitter handle has been hacked and are directing people to an alternative twitter account… which they are now also fraudulently tweeting on behalf of TeamOscar.”
She said she had been trying for weeks to have the Facebook page closed down, but had no luck with the social network.
Pistorius has been charged with the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and of contravening the Firearms Control Act.
