Ten-month-old conjoined baby girls, Knatalye Hope and Adeline Faith, survive world-first operation to separate them after 26hours in theater.
Conjoined 10-month-old twins, who were connected at the chest and abdomen were successfully separated in an incredible 26-hour procedure.
Knatalye Hope and Adeline Faith, who were born in April, shared several major organs including lungs, liver, intestines, colon, pelvis and lining of the heart.
They underwent a complex 26-hour operation to separate them at the Texas Children’s Hospital earlier this month
The operation saw a team of 12 surgeons, six anesthesiologists and eight surgical nurses carry out the surgery
It was an agonising wait for their mum Elysse Mata, who tearfully thanked the surgeons and expressed her relief following the successful procedure for giving her daughters the chance to live separate lives.
She said: ‘We know how much planning and time went into this surgery and we are so blessed to be at a place like Texas Children’s where we have access to the surgeons and caretakers that have made this dream a reality.
The girls will be overseen by the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit during their recovery over the coming months.
Doctors think they’ll need further surgery in the future and they’re unsure when they’ll be able to go home.
