The Collen Mashawana Foundation Launches The "One Brick At A Time" Campaign

The Collen Mashawana Foundation is a South African-based NGO. Established in 2012 in aid of assisting impoverished communities with housing and community development.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, supporting local communities have become essential during these challenging times. As most have been asked to stay home, the Collen Mashawana Foundation has reached out to the elderly and people living with a disability to assist where possible.

Our team has forged ahead to safely connect and aid those who were most affected by the pandemic. The foundation handed out 10 000+ parcels to communities in Limpopo, Gauteng, Kimberly and KZN.

The foundation believes that building a community and taking care of the most vulnerable is an essential part of everyday existence. “By having a roof over your head not only contributes to health benefits instills a sense of purpose and provides the basic human need for safety,” says Collen.

The House Appeal initiatives have managed to provide hundreds of people with safe shelter and have also gone further to donate essentials and food parcels where required.

Our team has gone back to the families that have been assisted in the past year to see if the houses that have been built are still in order and ensuring that their wellbeing is sustained. As a Foundation, we believe that helping those who are in need should not only be a once-off, but it should be a journey whereby all our resources are invested in the upkeep and wellbeing of our beneficiaries.

As a foundation, we are always striving to do more and positively impact the lives of more. As we look back at our journey, we are more than convinced that together we can achieve more, and we call on society to join us and assist with helping a further 100 homes.

Therefore, we have publicly launched the “One Brick At A Time” campaign where we ask the public to donate and contribute a brick or bricks towards the building of these 100 homes. Each brick will cost R2000, and we are hoping to reach a target of 5000 bricks, allowing us to build 100 homes for people in need.
One brick at a time will see us achieve this objective, and we are opening up an opportunity for those who want to be part of our journey in building our communities and, most importantly, assisting those who are most in need.
