Volkswagen’s new GOLF GTI performance vehicle tours South Africa this October
Only three letters are synonymous with performance, edge, competitiveness and bragging rights: GTI. The one brand that has entrenched itself deep within South African culture, claiming its cult status as the ultimate compact sports car since it landed on our shores in 1982.
This October, Volkswagen South Africa will introduce its latest eighth generation of the iconic Golf GTI.
“The GTI brand has been around for 39 years and since then it has become an absolute icon, from the streets of Soweto to Sandton, Umlazi to Umhlanga and Constantia to Mitchell’s Plain, it’s a brand that has entrenched itself in the hearts and minds of many South Africans,” says Steffen Knapp, Head of Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand.
“Whether you call it a Vrrrpha, everyone knows that you are talking about a Volkswagen Golf GTI. To launch the fastest and most connected Golf GTI yet, we are bringing it to fans.”
What is no doubt one of South Africa’s most highly anticipated car launches this year, Volkswagen will introduce the Golf 8 GTI to consumers by touring it across the country, hosting underground ‘car meets’ in parking lots in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
#GTI8OnTour takes the concept of ‘car meets’ and gives it the edge, style and power that is synonymous with the Golf GTI’s status.
To get entry to one of the launch events, fans need to play their way to obtaining a sought-after ticket to experience the new Golf 8 GTI. To prove their competitive edge, consumers will need to download the #GTI8OnTour gaming app for Apple or Android and clock their fastest time on the virtual streets to get onto the national leader board.
A good race time equals a ticket, one that will guarantee fans a chance to not only attend the intimate events but get into the driver’s seat of the Golf 8 GTI. Put pedal to the metal in the Goodyear GTI 100m Speed Dash, get taken on a whirlwind of a hot lap with a Volkswagen Advanced Driving instructor and experience a fully customised car meet that will include local car clubs, merchandise stalls, food trucks and live DJs.
The GOLF 8 GTI launch events will happen in these parkades this October:
