South Africa, April 24th, 2025 – adidas today unveils the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, the highly anticipated evolution of the race-dominating Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. The shoe continues to push the boundaries of performance, building on the legacy of its predecessor – which has been worn by more World Marathon Majors winners than any other shoe since its record-breaking debut at the 2023 Berlin Marathon, and helped adidas athletes break three world records and win over 30+ key road races, including seven national records and one Olympic record time.

The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 has been engineered to deliver even greater energy return and race-day speed. At the core of this update are a series of technological enhancements designed to give athletes a competitive edge:

New midsole – The footwear debuts a new midsole which packs 3mm more of adidas’ LIGHTSTRIKE PRO EVO foam in the forefoot, resulting in an almost 10% increase in forefoot stack height [compared to its predecessor]. Lab testing shows this delivers a 5% increase in energy return when compared to the record-breaking Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1.

Reimagined outsole – The shoe debuts a new outsole which features a grid-like pattern strategically placed on the forefoot, engineered to offer traction as the foot hits the floor.

As seen in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, the forefoot rocker is placed at 60% of the length of the shoe.

Patrick Nava, VP Product, Running & Credibility Sports at adidas Running says: “The design process for this shoe was a challenging but ultimately rewarding pursuit that started with simply looking at how we can make the fastest shoe we’ve ever created, even faster – all whilst keeping the weight consistent. The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 is born from our relentless pursuit of speed – refined through rigorous testing – from the high-altitude training camps in Iten, Kenya to our innovation labs in Herzogenaurach. Working alongside our elite athletes like former world record holder Yomif Kejelcha, we’ve developed a shoe that delivers more energy return and a more efficient running economy with no compromise on agility. We believe we’ve delivered the best experience yet and can’t wait to see possibly the fastest shoe we’ve ever created flying on the road during marathon season”.

Speaking about the shoe, adidas athlete Tigist Assefa said: “Having broken the women’s marathon world record in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, I couldn’t wait to try the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 – and I have been blown away by the experience. It offers incredible lightness while providing energy return and bounce underfoot, giving me a feeling of comfort and confidence to focus on running my best race.”

The design aesthetic is an evolution of its record-breaking predecessor – the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 – featuring a minimalistic silver finish, highlighted by bold red three stripes, designed to be visible at any speed. The shoe will launch with a highly limited release, with ambitious runners having a chance to purchase the shoe soon exclusively on adidas.co.za. A wider release will follow this in the fall marathon season. The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 will cost R 11 999. To find out more, please visit: www.adidas.co.za
