Johannesburg, March 26th, 2025 – Imagine stepping into a space where the air feels fresher, where nature doesn’t just surround you—it enhances your surroundings. This is the vision behind ‘Corona Botanic Spots’, a new initiative bringing living, air-purifying plant installations into urban spaces. More than just a striking feature, these green zones invite South Africans to pause, take a deep breath, and enjoy a moment outdoors.
Replacing traditional billboards, the ‘Corona Botanic Spots’ reimagine how brands interact with public spaces by introducing functional green areas into the cityscape. Located in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town, these sculpted installations—shaped like Corona’s iconic flint bottle—feature over 1,000 plants, helping to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen—contributing to fresher air and a more inviting outdoor space. The result is a space that blends visual impact with real benefits for people passing by.
Rebecca Murray, co-founder of the Owl Rescue Centre, emphasizes the importance of integrating nature into urban environments: “Our mission has always been to protect and rehabilitate wildlife, fostering a deeper connection between people and the natural world. Collaborating on the ‘Corona Botanic Spots’ allows us to extend this vision, bringing the benefits of nature into our cities and inspiring communities to appreciate and preserve our environment.”
The ‘Corona Botanic Spots’ are inspired by Corona’s ‘Made With Natural Ingredients’ platform, which celebrates the beauty of nature and the simplicity of what it offers. Just as Corona is brewed using four natural ingredients—barley, water, maize, and hops—these installations are thoughtfully crafted with natural plants, creating immersive spaces that echo the brand’s connection to the natural world.
Throughout the year, the ‘Made With Natural Ingredients’ platform will roll out experiential moments that inspire people to swap screen time for green time, fostering a culture of mindful outdoor living.

“As a brand deeply rooted in nature, we wanted to go beyond the conventional and create something that not only symbolizes our values but actively enhances the nature around us. The ‘Corona Botanic Spots’ invite people to pause, disconnect from routine, and reconnect with the simplicity of nature – and take a deep breath,” said Melanie Nicholson, Head of Brand: Corona South Africa.
By transforming billboards into “functional green spaces,” Corona is not only reducing its carbon footprint but also inspiring other brands to follow suit.
