Toni Morrison, Trailblazing Author Of ‘Beloved,’ Dead At 88

The trailblazing author Toni Morrison, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature and the Pulitzer Prize, died Monday night at the age of 88, her publisher, Knopf, confirmed in a tweet Tuesday.

Morrison was best known for her 1987 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “Beloved,” later adapted into a 1998 film starring Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover. In 1993, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first black woman to receive the honor. In 2012, President Barack Obama awarded her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
