Supermodel Tyra Banks welcomed her first child with boyfriend, Norwegian photographer Erik Asla, named York Banks Asla, via a surrogate.
To the surprise of many, the “America’s Next Top Model” creator Tyra Banks took to Instagram Wednesday (January 27) to announce she and her boyfriend Erik Asla welcomed their first child, a baby boy the couple named York Banks Asla via surrogacy.
The 42 year old business woman has publicly spoken of the difficulty she’s had trying to conceive, which makes the announcement of her new child, even more special.
“The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here,” she shared “He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin.”
Banks continued by thanking her surrogate and calling her an “angel”
“As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world.”
Last September Tyra broke down in tears on her recently cancelled FABLife television show, as she hit out at social media bullies who constantly demand to know why she has not had any children.
The star, who has had failed IVF treatments in the past, made the emotional proclamation after Chrissy Teigen brought up her own fertility troubles.
Tyra said: ‘I’m so tired of seeing on my social media, “why don’t you have kids, why don’t you have kids?” ‘You don’t know, you don’t know what I’m going through. You have no idea.’
She then explained how she had been certain she would have a large family for her whole life, and was shocked when it did not turn out that way.
The America’s Next Top Model host said: ‘For a long time, it was so funny, I was 23-years-old, I used to tell myself “in three years I’m going to have kids.”
‘Then I turned 24, “in three years I’m going to have kids.” Every single year I just kept saying that. And then after a while it’s like, now I want to, it’s not so easy.’
Congrats to the happy couple.
