A little over two decades ago, Ultra Music Festival kicked off in Miami Beach, Florida. Fast forward to 2020 and the festival is now live in 34 cities across the world with Cape Town and Johannesburg being the only two African cities to host it.
Over the years, the Ultra Music Festival stage has given hundreds of DJs, from across the globe, a platform to perform for a varied group of music lovers. Through Spotify’s curated playlists such as Ultra Music Festival 2020, which are created to support local events, the world’s most popular subscription service, Spotify, gives talent from these localised events an even broader ‘stage’ to share their music to a global audience. To further demonstrate its commitment to support and grow local talent by offering a platform to showcase their music to over 271 million active users, Spotify launched its Music Festivals hub that will continuously be updated with playlists from South Africa’s top music festivals.
Since inception, a regular feature in the Ultra Music Festival line up has been globally acclaimed, local DJ Black Coffee. The popular DJ was also recently named again as one of Spotify’s 2019 top 10 most streamed local artists in South Africa. While his song ‘Drive’ featuring David Guetta and Delilah Montagu claimed the top spot as the most streamed local track in South Africa. This year, Black Coffee will return to the Ultra stage to headline alongside international acts such as DJ Snake, Afro Jack, Dash Berlin and more.
