WESENS, the critically acclaimed Karoo Sci-Fi film that was released in South African cinemas in October last year, will now be exclusively available on DStv BoxOffice from 8 March 2021.

This sci-fi, mystery is set in South Africa in 1967 and follows four South African Intelligence Agents as they investigate an unidentified object that landed on a farm in the Karoo. They record their investigation with a Super 8 and 16mm camera, trying to solve a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very last line.

Film critics like Leon van Nierop, Anna-Marie Jansen van Vuuren, Francois Bekker and many others raved about this first full-length film from writer and director Derick Muller.

“WESENS is like nothing you have ever seen in Afrikaans“, said Leon van Nierop and rated the film as one of his Top 10 films of 2020.

Rapportgave the film four stars, calling it “ground-breaking” and Radio Sonder Grense praised it as “one of the rarest films ever made in Afrikaans.

Anna-Marie Jansen van Vuuren named it “the first, truly Afrikaans Sci-Fi film“, while Francois Bekker wrote in FAK’s Flink magazine that “serious filmgoers will thoroughly enjoy all the cinematic elements.

Siegfried Louw from LiGmagazine wrote that after watching the film “you feel like someone who was given the opportunity to discover something you that are not supposed to know.

Laetitia Pople from Netwerk24 (Die Burger/Beeld) wrote that it is wonderful to experience Albert Maritz as the farmer who discovers a strange object on his farm, his “pitch perfect performance will have you laughing out loud.

The cast of this first-of-a-kind Karoo Sci-Fi film includes renowned South African actors, such as Albert Maritz (Griekwastad, Fynskrif, Trackers), Pietie Beyers (Binnelanders, Vergeet My Nie) and Morné Visser (The Kissing Booth, The Harvester, Dis ek, Anna). The film also includes fresh new faces such as Randy Januarie (Projek Dina, Die Sentrum), Rayno von Schlicht and Conradie van Heerden (Fynskrif, Sara se Geheim).
