We all focus on accomplishments and emphasizes on one’s inward self-knowledge. Unfortunately it is not as easy as it sounds and the 10 steps bullet points rule does not always conform with everyone’s life approach.
What do you do when you can’t figure out what you are called for? What do you when you do not know what your passion is? What do you do when you realise that people you think are less smarter than you are way ahead of you? You are aware of your capability but things just do not happen. What do you do when you keep enrolling and succeeding academically but none of your qualifications make any meaning? What do you do when you do not know where you want to be in life? What do you do when people your age seem to have figured it out and settled while you are still confused and sometimes wonder if you are mentally incapable?
What do you do when everyone runs to you for advice and walk away empowered but you can’t cure your own life? What do you do when they keep saying , “enjoy and embrace your present life “, but your present life has nothing to embrace and does not make sense? What do you do when everyone who started later than you gets promoted more than once and you are still locked in a place of confusion?
This doesn’t mean you do not have a job or any activity that sustains you. You might be very educated but still established in this emotionally redundant state. You might be tossing great ideas day and night but you don’t know how to make them benefit you and rise above to your state of fulfillment. You find yourself wanting to escape but you don’t know where because you seem to be making sense to a lot of people but can’t make any sense to yourself.
Nobody has it all figured out
Understand your journey. We are all walking different journeys. There are journeys that are generally uniform and those which are totally unique, those which have a greater story behind. Comparing yourself with others is the main course of hurt. I agree, it is natural for one to compare in order to measure their level of progress but understand, our patterns of life are not the same.
The ones who seem like they have it all figured out are actually working on it daily, they are in their own journey of personal discovery and the only difference with them is that their interests seem to surface according to their planned approach and these shouldn’t disturb you. It is their personal journey.
May I share some story with you:
I normally find it costly for one to spend R20 or more daily and sometimes twice on coffee when the company provides free coffee. Most people prefer the coffee from the coffee shop and it seems like it’s a fancy thing to drink the coffee shop coffee than getting the free one from the vending machine.
As I was walking past the vending machine this other day , I see this gentleman getting free coffee from the vending machine and pouring it into the fancy coffee shop cups.
It dawned on me that we all measure ourselves from what we see outside not knowing what really happens inside the container. If I didn’t see this gentleman , I would have concluded that he also spends money on the fancy coffee shop .
The content is not always as fancy as the container.
Going back to the subject. We are all in this journey of self-discovery and it does not carry instant results. It takes less years with some people and takes more years with others.
What do you do when you run out of options? A life with purpose is a life of contentment.
You actually have personal preferences but God has it all figures out for you. He’s got options which is why one must build a strong relationship with his/her Maker in order to be in line with the destiny’s known and the unknowns paths. Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
This might be tricky but I will say it ,”Do not compare your life with others”. God created you for your own unique purpose. Do not give-up on yourself just because you are unable to figure out what that purpose is . Life is revelatory – meaning as you walk your path , things will begin to unfold. There are rocks you can’t turn yourself but God turns them as you reach the right time and destination for them to be turned. Keep walking until you reach a point where you find yourself discovering things in which you will have discovered others earlier it’s just that they will make more sense later .
There is no deadline in life and something is bound to happen in one’s life path. God has it all figured out . Things will pull through and all that you have been through will make sense.
Keep walking and doing all that you have to do to keep your life going. You are not alone . GOD’S GOT THIS!!
