How can you top each increasingly expensive ‘Game of Thrones’ TV series?
[full]Author George R. R. Martin suggests a multimillion dollar movie might be the way to go.
“The books get bigger and bigger,” he said, speaking to the Hollywood Reporter at a New York event for Season 4’s April 6 network premiere.
“It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know,” he promised.
Of the seven-book A Song of Ice and Fire series, Martin has already seen five published — the first having been called A Game of Thrones.
Season 4 of the TV adaptation covers the back half of book three, A Storm of Swords, leaving plenty of ground left to cover, and plenty yet to write for Martin himself.
“Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10?” he wondered out loud.
And with at least five years passing in between the publication of books three and four, and then books four and five, it would seem that 65-year-old Martin has plenty of time to decide exactly how big those dragons will get.[/full]
