ZOÉ RELEASES THIRD SINGLE TITLED, ”HIER”
Zoé has just the released her emotional new single titled, ”Hier.” The singer and songwriter entered the Afrikaans music scene earlier this year with her pop-rock anthems titled, ”Crazy Meisie” and ”Lief Hê.”
”Hier,” however is a moodier song, featuring electronic elements and showcasing Zoé’s versatility and her ability to write about more serious themes. Zoé explains that the song was written about someone close to her that was going through a difficult time. ”It usually during the more trying times you realise who is really there for you. ‘Hier’ is a very emotional song and I hope that my audience will connect with it,” she shared.
For Zoé writing has become one of her outlets to deal with her own feelings and struggles. ”Writing is a medium I can use to tell my side of a story. I can put down what I’m feeling on a piece of paper and process it. With this song the process was heavy, but at the end I felt relief.”
”Hier” showcases a modern sound reminiscent of Billie Eilish and was produced by Tertius Human of CoolerBox Studios. ”I was inspired by water and wanted parts to sound as if it was happening under water.,” Human shared. “I spent days exploring and experimenting with different sounds, building up the track and stripping it back down when it started to feel too busy.
Zoé also released a music video for ”Hier.” The video was shot at 012 Central in Pretoria’s CBD. It was filmed by Michael van Zyl and Directed by George van Rooyen. ”Water was already the theme in the studio, so we decided to run with it. Water can be isolating, it can be reflective, nourishing, comforting, and sustaining – so we explored different images with water that would support the theme without being too literal,” van Rooyen said.
”Hier has a very important message,” Zoé explained. ”You are never alone and if you are facing a difficult time there is always someone you can turn to or talk to. I’ve learned that you are never as alone as you feel, you can take far more than you realise and eventually things will get better.”
